Pro Angler

The 13-foot 8-inch long by 38-inch wide Pro Angler from Hobie Cat is designed for those who want the amenities of a large boat, including stability and spacious storage, combined with the user-friendly benefits of a smaller fishing boat — light weight, maneuverability, and lower price. The Pro Angler boasts a weight capacity of over 600 pounds despite weighing in at only 138 pounds fully rigged. The ergonomically-designed Cool Ride seat is wide, ventilated, and easily adjustable. The boat is both wide enough to allow ample freedom of movement and stable enough for anglers to stand up and cast, giving them a better view of the water.  It offers an affordable, human-powered, environmentally-friendly alternative to fishing.

The defining feature of the Pro Angler is its patented MirageDrive, with self-centering pedals connected to two underwater flippers (much like penguin wings) that are instantly locked and unlocked from the boat with an easy Click and Go system. A new molded-in steering control with an oversized handle is located adjacent to the seat. The combination of the rudder system and the hull design leaves the gunnels clean so that there is no issue with lines getting caught.

There are other key benefits of the Pro Angler. Its rudder is positioned to provide a very tight turning radius resulting in easy maneuvering in and around obstacles and along shorelines, but will automatically retract under the hull when obstacles are unavoidable. The MirageDrive allows the boat to be held in position while casting to a specific spot, the same advantage offered by an electric motor.

The Pro Angler is available in three colors including Ivory Dune, Golden Papaya and the new Olive at an MSRP of $2499.

Outback in yellow

Outback

The Outback’s wide hull provides super stability, allowing anglers to perform the various tasks of fishing without rocking the boat. It features plenty of cargo and stowage space, and with its MirageDrive pedal system, hands are left virtually free to concentrate on fishing. New for 2011 is an oversized steering handle for precision control.

The Outback is 12-feet 1-inch long, 33-inches wide, and has a hull weight of 62-pounds.  The Mirage Drive weighs 6.6-pounds.  Capacity is rated at 400-pounds.

Additional Standard Gear includes Hobie Cat’s new dual control steering system from both seat positions. There is an oversize hinged hatch in the bow with access to a large storage area. Hobie Cat installed two “Twist and Seal” 8-inch hatches, and molded-in utility trays.  There is also an oversized rear cargo area to accommodate a cooler, milk crate, or bucket. Next, there is an on-deck receptacle for an optional sail mast, dive flag, or nav-anchor light. Rounding out the features are a new deluxe padded seatback with lumbar support, mesh-covered stowage pockets, a mid-boat carrying handle and a gear bucket.  MSRP is $1799.

Oasis in yellow

Oasis

This new tandem model is powered by two of Hobie’s patented MirageDrive systems.  It offers quick acceleration and an impressive hull speed without sacrificing utility or hauling capacity.  The ample storage, built-in rod holders, roomy cockpits, rear trunk area and flat rails for mounting accessories make this boat easy to fish from. It lets users share the kayak fishing experience with another person while still functioning equally well with just one.

The boat is constructed of recyclable and seamless polyethylene and features a closed-deck design with self-draining scuppers that keep cockpit seats dry. Twist and Seal lid hatches stay with the boats, open and close with a simple turn of the handle, are highly water resistant, feature a smooth nonskid surface, and have a compression O-ring. Deluxe padded seatbacks feature inflatable lumbar supports. Stainless padeyes and carrying handles on each end make transport easy from parking lot to beach or from a boat deck down to the water. An optional cart is recommended for transporting on land. And of course it meets the National Marine Manufacturers Association certification requirements for flotation.

The Oasis is 14-feet 6-inches long and 33-inches wide.  The hull weight is 75-pounds, and the two Mirage Drives weigh in at 6.6-pounds each.  The capacity is rated at 550-pounds.

Additional standard features include a “Twist and Stow” rudder that can lie flat on deck and front and rear cargo areas, four molded-in rod holders with caps,  two mesh-covered stowage pockets, and an on-deck receptacle with cap for optional sail mat, dive flag, etc.   MSRP is $2699.
