Think Vertical: Right-Angle Indicator Fishing

October 7, 2010 By: Marshall Cutchin

Rich Culver writes about the advantages of right-angle indicator fishing for getting down to Dolly Varden and cohos, but the techniques are worth learning for any type of angling where fish are hiding beneath the current. “The use of vivid, highly contrasting colored poly yarn is critical to the technique as it highlights the ‘turn over’ point in the drift. The turn over point in the drift is that instant when the presented fly is directly below (and hence at a right angle with respect to) the suspended tuff of poly yarn, and fishing now becomes vertical.” In the Capital City Weekly.
