Florida Anglers and Industry Fear Oil Spill Hit

Whether or not contamination from the oil becomes a reality, the threat of disaster has already begun affecting Florida businesses dependent on fishing tourism dollars.
Cox’s Marc Morrell commented Saturday on a new a study conducted by Bonefish and Tarpon Trust and funded in part by the Everglades Foundation: “More than 8,000 jobs linked to saltwater sport fishing are at risk if oil reaches the Everglades region. Saltwater sport fish species such as bonefish, redfish, snook sea trout and tarpon account for 71 percent of the $1.2 billion in economic impact with more than $883 million at stake.”
