Crank (and We Mean Crank) the Pearl Jam

Despite the band’s long-time affinity with all things wild, who’d have guessed that among the many non-profit groups Pearl Jam supports are Trout Unlimited and the Wild Salmon Center? The band’s new album “Backspacer” comes out September 20, and fans at Friday’s Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco could listen to some of the new tracks, with this kicker: they had to sit at a super-green listening station, using a hand crank to power their tunes.
“Four new tracks from Pearl Jam — ‘Get Some,’ ‘The Fixer,’ ‘Just Breathe’ and ‘Supersonic’ — were available for huff-puff listening pleasure. Just Breathe? Also fitting, considering how long you had to crank to get to song No. 3.” Jeff Kart on Treehugger.com.
