Amber Heard, Zach Gilford and "The River Why"

The February issue of Outside magazine features a story about the steep slope David James Duncan’s novel ascended on its way to becoming a movie. On their Web site, Outside posts an Amber Heard photo gallery and a video interview with Zach Gilford, who plays the protagonist in what the editors call the movie version of Duncan’s “bildungsroman” (I’m not kidding). Let’s hope the movie itself is a bit more scintillating.

This film will clearly confuse non-angling audiences about the term “nymph.”

  • I haven’t read the Outside story yet, but aren’t there a bunch of legal matters this movie is tied up in? Last I read, there was the possibility of two movies. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how they pull this book off on film. If it is anywhere close to the book, there won’t be much of a “non-angling” audience.

I believe the legal issues were resolved a couple of months ago. But it will be interesting to see if they can translate Duncan’s narrative into something as powerful as “The River Runs Through It.” God knows, it would be a shot in the arm for the industry — but a bad movie might be worse than none at all.

I’m listening to the audio book ‘River Why?’ Now from audible.com. Aside from the narrators ridiculous high & low pitch, and his horrendous english accent attempts, its worth a listen if you need something for that long drive. Its over 15 hours.
